Academic Degrees

The procedure for the acquisition of academic degrees is regulated by the Development of Academic Staff in the Republic of Bulgaria Act (HEARA).

The core principles enshrined in the Act include:

• Autonomy of scientific organizations and decentralization of the procedures;
• Freedom of academic development and objectivity in its evaluation;
• Guaranteeing the public interest related to the quality of the educational process and scientific research;
• International recognition, exchange of experts and information during the procedures, with the aim of building a unified educational and research space.
