On November 7, 2024, the Institute of Solid-State Physics at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences marked an important step in expanding its network of international partnerships with a focus on innovation by signing a cooperation agreement with a leading Japanese institute – the Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute International (ATR), Kyoto.

The memorandum was signed in Sofia by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ekaterina Yordanova, Director of the Institute of Solid State Physics at BAS, and Dr. Hiroyuki Suzuki, Senior Executive Vice President and Representative Director of the Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute International (ATR).

The purpose of the memorandum is to strengthen cooperation between Bulgaria and Japan in the fields of technological innovation, industrial research, and development. Both parties committed to identifying and supporting specific projects and partnerships that will stimulate innovation and economic growth.

The Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute International (ATR) is renowned for its cutting-edge research and its role in creating and developing a global innovation ecosystem in the Science City of Kyoto (Kansai Science City). The institute is host of KGAP+ (Keihanna Global Acceleration Program Plus )- an acceleration program that brings startups from around the world to Japan to collaborate with leading Japanese organisations and grow their businesses.
